Mr. Maru: What did you do this weekend?

Sparky: I went to Mr.Burger. I ate a cheeseburger at there.

Mr. Maru: at there? Interesting. I'm hungry. Can you get me my jacket?

Sparky: Where is it?

Mr. Maru: It's in there. (points to the other room)

Sparky: in there?

Mr. Maru: Yeah, over there in the closet.

'There' is an adverb. It can't be used with some prepositions (at, with) but it can be used with a lot of different prepositions. Let's go over a few of them:

in there

'in there' means the object is inside something or behind something. For example,

The TV is in there. It's not in this room. It is inside another room.

Check the kitchen drawer. I think the flashlight is in there (the drawer). The flashlight is in the drawer.

out there

'out there' means the object is outside something or outside the main area.

The TV is out there. We are in a bedroom. The TV is in the living room. (The living room is a main area of the house)

Here are some examples of the main areas of a house: hallways, living room, family room, lawn, backyard.

over there

'over there' means the object is farther away but you can usually see it.

The dressing rooms are over there. You can see them.

Please put the hammer over there. I will need it later.

under there

'under there' means the object is under something.

Do you see that table? The hammer is under there.
