LinkedIn.com is yet another social media tool that you should not be left out of.  This one is not used so much for the friends aspect, but more for networking in a professional career manner.  It is a huge social network for connecting with other business professionals. Right now the number of users is floating around 30 million and building everyday.

LinkedIn allows you to create a professional profile.  You list your previous work experience, post your resume, and build your network. You can also join different groups, look for a job, hire for your company, and get referrals.  It is a powerful tool to find work, if you need to.

"So why do I need this?" you ask.  It won't help you find private students directly, but it will build your professional network.  Your network of resources that you can tap into is invaluable.  You never know when you might need help with something.  The bigger your network of people from different industries and fields, the deeper you can dig to achieve what you need.  This is where LinkedIn comes in handy. Let's say you need advice with taxes or your expiring visa.  You may not directly know someone who can help you out, but you might be connected with someone that knows who can.  You can also connect with other teachers and give and get referrals.  When you live in a foreign country finding someone trustworthy is priceless.

Also if you are a teacher with your own school or an aspiring entrepreneur, then LinkedIn is right up your alley.  This can be a very effective method of marketing and networking.  You never know when you need teachers to hire, or collaborate with.

So don't be left out of this professional network, get LinkedIn and market yourself professionally online.
