YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine next to google.  So why not get your name out there in the YouTube world?

This is a great way to market yourself online and get potential students.  If you are the owner of a private school, this is a fantastic way to do some marketing.  If you have some marketing skills, this is a great way to be creative.  If you have some existing students that you can utilize as a reference ask them to be in some videos.  They can explain how they have learned and improved from your teaching.

So for YouTube, first you need to create an account.  It's an easy process, they just want the basic info.  You should pick a user name that will convey what your videos will be about.  For example something with the word English or grammar would help when it comes to people doing a search.  You should think of this account as a business marketing tool rather then a personal one.  This will make sure you keep it professional and on track of teaching English and getting students.

Now to create some videos.  I would recommend getting a webcam or having a digital camera to record yourself for your videos.  This makes you personable and your students will be more comfortable  and confident meeting you in the future.  Make sure you are smiling, speaking clear and loud enough.  iI possible make your audience laugh. and keep it light.  Most importantly make sure they can walk away with some new knowledge.

I would start by creating a simple short video teaching or explaining a difficult English point.  Have some examples and some tips and you are good to go.  If you can't think of anything to teach go with a idiom or expression.  They are always fun to explain and students love to learn them.  Most can be very funny too.

If you don't have a camera, or webcam, you can use a free program called Jing.  This allows you to record your computer screen and your voice.  So you can create a lesson on your PowerPoint or Word document.  Even if you don't have a mic, you can still teach a short lesson.  You can put some pictures and music to it.  Be creative and you'll soon find it's a lot of fun.

Another awesome program that you can use is called Camtasia.  This one is not free though.  It allows you to record your computer screen and a video and do video and audio post editing with separate tracks.  It's a nifty program.  So if you have the time and mullah, check it out.

You can also use YouTube to communicate with your existing students.  You can make personal videos to specific students and only a certain student to see it.  So you can make videos critiquing their strengths and weaknesses and also give them homework.  There are so many possibilities.  It all depends on how motivated and creative you are.

So let the creative juices start flowing and maybe I'll see you as a superstar on YouTube.  Good luck!
