It seems that everyone is going crazy about the buzz and fame Twitter.com established in the cyber world. Well, why not? Twitter is a free service that lets us keep in touch with our loved ones, relatives, and friends through the exchange of quick and everyday answers to one very easy question: What are you doing?

Twitter is more than just a huge chat room, and it’s really taking a step forward. With its remarkable usability, everything is very easy and simple to use just like posting ‘cause it’s as simple as hitting a submit button. In addition, twitter has gained a community where cool people are posting away and addicts can react at anytime. The whole thing seems to be well thought out, and it really shows.

Truly, Twitter has come a long way. There have even been lots of tools that help people organize twitter as well as filtering out tweets. And for those twit enthusiasts, do you still use Twitter by opening Twitter.com in a browser? Or, have you tried making use of a desktop client to manage all the incoming status updates, tweets, comments, and other notifications in one small window on the side of your computer’s screen? Today, Tweetdeck and Seesmic desktop are the two most popular social network consoles among the tweet-happy people.

Both applications have a similar principle: Instead of Twitter’s single column of messages streaming from bottom to top, they encourage users to line up three, four, or ten columns side by side — one for Twitter direct messages or another that searches continuously for a particular keyword. The trick is to stumble on the most favorable spread of different types of incoming social network messages.

Now, here’s a quick review for each tool and how it can help you organize Twitter.

Seesmic Desktop

For those ultimate power users who just can’t deal with the 10 panel limit, and also have multiple twitter accounts, Seesmic Desktop has got you covered and it’s a dream application for the frequent status updater, group lover, and social media buff. It supports multiple columns, but maybe in danger of over confusing the once super trouble-free, yet powerful, UI. Essentially, every Twitter-related activity happens within the same home column, until you create a new view in a separate column. You can detach as many columns as you want (with TweetDeck you’re limited to only 10), delete them just as simply, and drag-and-drop them to reshuffle their arrangement.

An added UI enhancement is the search bar in the bottom left-hand corner. Type anything you would like to swiftly search Twitter. You’ll notice that results are shown in a new column. The search that you just made will show up in the left-hand navigation bar, so you can simply go back to the column and your search, even when you go overboard on the number of columns you make.

Tweetdeck

On the other hand, one of the best things about Tweetdeck is that it detaches tweets from people you follow from Replies. It has a panel for your chief ‘All Friends” stream, replies, DM’s, Facebook and up to 10 search panels. Now even if you are limited to 10, you can choose to monitor multiple search terms in every one. That way, you can view your responses and reactions much quicker without looking for it in a disorganized Twitter stream. TweetDeck also has Twitpic integration, rather than going to their website, you can upload a TwitPic from TweetDeck. It also has a feature called Tweetshrink. This actually replaces the words in the tweets with text/IM language if you have a 140+ character tweet. Now, it won't come with a translation for all words, but it will translate a majority of them. This aids you in fitting your tweets into 140 characters. Which makes this handy for those 140-character challenged among us.

Tweetdeck is built for the Twitter Addicted. It has tons of features including one exclusive (for now) new feature, MySpace integration. Tweetdeck originated the multiple column view and user grouping. But its advantages can be its disadvantages. It can be a little complicated and overwhelming for the new Twitter user, so proceed with caution.

Tweetdeck vs Seesmic

The key difference between these two applications is that Seesmic has one integrated feed, where all of your tweets and facebook updates get fed into one stream. Tweetdeck separates those out into separate columns. So, if you manage multiple accounts, Seesmic might be a better solution for you.  Tweetdeck does have a lot of power, but might be a little too much for the average user.

In Summary

With the enormous amount of applications coming out for Twitter, remember that both Tweetdeck and Seesmic are still being actively developed. Both programs have a variety of ways and techniques to interface with Facebook and Twitter (and MySpace), with each developing its own fanatical user base.

A word of warning though, this comparison between these two applications is a bit of a moving target. Both of these programs receive new features on a regular basis and so it's hard to compare them. I recommend trying both and see what strikes your fancy.

Tweetdeck has a new version 31.1 that you must download. New features include a column of new followers that lists their bios. You can automatically add hashtags which is very cool when participating in hashtag discussions. You can also change the color scheme and so much more.
