In Depth With Headsupenglish

In American colleges, most courses in foreign languages place a lot of stress on grammar. Language teachers try to teach you the structure of a new language so that it becomes second nature to you. If you know the rules of grammar in a language, you can construct sentences of your own in that language as well as understand what other people say and write in the language.

There are several things that frequently get students into trouble with the grammar of a foreign language. The first is that many students have either forgotten or never knew the rudiments of English grammar. They find that the grammar of a foreign language is so much nonsense, a complete mystery. One of the reasons is that they do not know the meaning of these grammatical terms in their own language whereas the instructor takes it for granted that they do.

If you’re one of the many individuals who are having difficulty in learning English as a Second Language (ESL), you can make up your deficiencies as you go along with the aid of headsupenglish.com. This website is full of English grammar and vocabulary lesson plans and materials which are all presented in a comprehensive approach. The teaching of grammar in a course in foreign language is merely a device for speeding your mastery of the language and this is why all lesson plans from Headsupenglish consider the time limitation of the class, the student ability as well as the hectic and tiring schedule of teachers. Each lesson plan and material is categorized according to the level of students, thus, making it easier to navigate the website and look for the material you need. Also, the approach used includes examples and activities that are useful and constructive to practice your knowledge.

Overall Chris has a great website. Lots of great free resources to choose from. He also has an email newsletter with helpful teaching tips. Chris is also available on Twitter and participates in the conversations about ESL and EFL there. He is definitely an active member of the community and very helpful.

Country I Teach in Japan
Pros Chris Cotter is constantly updating the site and adding new lesson plans and worksheets. I lot of the classes are just 'pull and go.' All you have to do is print out the necessary materials and burn the mp3s off on CD and away you go. He has basic 'skill builders' plus current topic discussion type lessons.
Cons Some of the discussion lesson plans are a long list of questions that might need to be supplemented with other material to make the class more engaging.
